Tehran, April 23 (NationPress) The spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baghaei, vehemently criticized the recent US sanctions imposed on several individuals and entities associated with the Iranian energy, oil, and gas sectors, as well as those connected to the nation's "peaceful" nuclear program.

Baghaei's comments came in a statement issued by the Ministry shortly after the US announced new sanctions aimed at individuals and organizations for their involvement in exporting Iran's liquefied petroleum gas and crude oil to international markets, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

He remarked that the US's approach of sanctioning the Iranian populace is a "clear indication of the American policymakers' hostile stance towards Iran's citizens and a blatant disregard for the rule of law and human rights".

Baghaei continued, "The US administration's reliance on economic sanctions as a method of intimidation and political pressure against developing nations contravenes the fundamental principles and regulations of the United Nations Charter and international law".

He emphasized that the sanctions targeting various economic and trade sectors of Iran represent a "bullying and illegal action", which starkly contradicts the US's claims of supporting dialogue and negotiations, revealing Washington's lack of sincerity and goodwill.

Furthermore, he held the US accountable on an international level for enforcing unilateral sanctions against the Iranian populace, asserting that Washington is culpable for serious human rights violations resulting from its harmful policies.

On April 22, the US Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated Iranian national Seyed Asadollah Emamjomeh and his corporate network for their purported role in the shipping of Iranian liquefied petroleum gas and crude oil to foreign markets.

Additionally, Iranian national Meisam Emamjomeh has also been designated.

These new sanctions mark the seventh round of actions taken by the US government against Iran since February 4, when President Donald Trump issued a memorandum directing a campaign of maximum pressure on the Islamic Republic.

These fresh sanctions have come in the midst of ongoing Oman-mediated indirect discussions between Iran and the US.

The first round occurred in Muscat on April 12, followed by a second round in Rome on Saturday. A third round is scheduled to take place in Oman this Saturday.
