Tehran, July 31 (NationPress) On Thursday, Iran accused the United States of weaponizing its economy and employing sanctions as instruments to impose its will on sovereign nations like Iran and India, hindering their growth and progress.
"The United States persistently manipulates the economy and leverages sanctions to enforce its agenda upon independent countries such as Iran and India, obstructing their development and advancement. These coercive and discriminatory measures violate international law and the principles of national sovereignty, exemplifying a contemporary form of economic imperialism," stated the Iranian Embassy in India on X.
"Opposing such policies represents a commitment to a more robust, non-Western-led multilateral global order and a more resilient Global South," it continued.
This response followed closely on the heels of US President Donald Trump’s announcement regarding a 25% tariff on India and penalties for purchasing Russian oil, effective August 1.
In addition, the Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the latest US sanctions on Iran's oil sector, labeling them a malicious attempt to undermine the nation’s economic growth and the welfare of its citizens.
Expressing strong disapproval of the new sanctions targeting several Iranian individuals, entities, and ships involved in the oil and energy sector, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baqaei described these oppressive measures as clear manifestations of US hostility towards the Iranian populace.
"The spokesperson emphasized that Washington's dependence on unilateral actions and its use of illegal and coercive measures to achieve dubious aims at the international level, alongside its blatant disregard for human rights and the rule of law, have undermined fundamental international legal principles, such as respect for state sovereignty and the freedom of trade, exposing the world to unprecedented dangers," the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated.
During a media briefing in Tehran, Baqaei asserted that these unilateral and unlawful sanctions are inherently criminal, violating core principles of international law and human rights, effectively constituting a crime against humanity.
