Tehran, June 30 (NationPress) Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to officially recognize Israel and the United States as the primary instigators of the "aggression" directed towards Iran.
In a correspondence directed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UNSC President Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Araghchi implored the Council to uphold its duty in preserving international peace and security, as reported by the official IRNA news agency.
He accused Israel of systematically targeting residential structures, civilians, and essential infrastructure, labeling these actions as a "flagrant breach" of the UN Charter and a "blatant violation" of international law.
Araghchi asserted that both Israel and the United States had also assaulted Iran's nuclear sites -- which are safeguarded by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) -- in a "grave violation" of the UN Charter, the Non-Proliferation Treaty, and the IAEA's regulations and resolutions.
The Iranian foreign minister stressed that the UNSC must hold these "aggressors" accountable and implement measures to avert the recurrence of such "crimes."
On June 13, Israel executed extensive airstrikes across various regions in Iran, including nuclear and military locations, resulting in the deaths of senior commanders, nuclear scientists, and numerous civilians. Iran retaliated with several waves of missile and drone strikes on Israel, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
On June 22, US forces targeted three Iranian nuclear facilities. In response, Iran launched an attack on the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
After 12 days of conflict, a ceasefire between Iran and Israel was established on Tuesday.
