Tehran, June 28 (NationPress) Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Saturday emphatically requested US President Donald Trump to avoid using what he described as a “disrespectful and unacceptable tone” towards Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warning that such comments could jeopardize any prospective negotiations between the two nations.
He added that mutual respect is essential if Washington is genuinely interested in pursuing an agreement with Tehran.
“If President Trump is sincere about wanting a deal, he should set aside the disrespectful and unacceptable tone directed at Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, and refrain from offending his millions of devoted followers,” Araghchi stated in a post on X.
“The intricate nature and perseverance of Iranians is famously reflected in our exquisite carpets, crafted through countless hours of dedication and patience. However, our core belief is quite straightforward: we are aware of our worth, cherish our independence, and will never allow anyone else to dictate our fate,” the post continued.
He further emphasized that the Iranian people do not respond well to “threats and insults”.
“The Great and Powerful Iranian People, who demonstrated to the world that the Israeli regime had no option but to seek help to evade being overwhelmed by our missiles, do not tolerate Threats and Insults. If misguided illusions lead to grave errors, Iran will not hesitate to reveal its true capabilities, which will undoubtedly dispel any misconceptions about Iran's strength. Good will begets goodwill, and respect fosters respect,” the Iranian Foreign Minister asserted.
This statement followed President Trump's remarks on his social media platform, where he claimed he saved Khamenei from “a very ugly and ignominious death” and accused the Iranian Supreme Leader of falsely claiming victory over Israel.
“Why would the so-called ‘Supreme Leader,’ Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, of the war-torn nation of Iran, make such blatant and foolish statements about winning the war with Israel when he knows they are false? As a man of great faith, he should not lie. His country was devastated, his three nefarious nuclear sites were destroyed, and I was fully aware of his location, and would not allow Israel or the US Armed Forces, the greatest and most powerful in the world, to end his life. I saved him from a very ugly and dishonorable demise, and he is not required to say, ‘Thank you, President Trump’,” Trump stated on Truth Social.
“In fact, during the last moments of the war, I insisted that Israel return a substantial number of aircraft that were en route directly to Tehran, looking for a significant strike, potentially the final blow! Enormous destruction would have followed, and many Iranians could have lost their lives. It was poised to be the largest attack of the war, by far,” he continued.
The US leader also claimed that in recent days, he had been working on “the possible removal of sanctions and other measures” that could have provided Iran with a much better opportunity for a swift and comprehensive recovery.
“But instead, I received a statement filled with anger, hatred, and disgust, prompting me to immediately halt all efforts regarding sanction relief, among other things. Iran must reintegrate into the global framework, or conditions will only worsen for them,” Trump asserted.
Earlier this week, Trump announced a ceasefire between Iran and Israel following 12 days of escalating military conflict, urging both parties to exercise restraint.
