Israel Acknowledges September Operation Against Syrian 'Secret Missile Production Facility'

Jerusalem, Jan 3 (NationPress) The Israeli military disclosed that approximately 100 of its personnel conducted an operation in Syria last September aimed at dismantling a secret missile production facility reportedly financed by Iran.
In a rare acknowledgment of its operations in Syria, the military confirmed in a statement that the September 8 mission targeted and destroyed an underground facility for producing precision missiles in the Masyaf region, located near Syria's Mediterranean coastline, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
The Israeli military asserted that the facility contained advanced production lines intended for precision-guided missiles and long-range rockets. These weapons, they claimed, would have significantly enhanced supplies to Hezbollah and other Iranian-supported factions in the area.
The operation included a synchronized assault featuring helicopters, drones for intelligence gathering, fighter jets, and naval vessels. The Israeli forces successfully demolished the facility, seizing equipment, munitions, and intelligence documents, which were transported back to Israel for further examination. No Israeli personnel were harmed during the raid.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war monitoring group based in Britain, reported in September that the operation resulted in 27 casualties.
Since the beginning of Syria's civil conflict in 2011, Israel has executed numerous strikes within the country, asserting that it targets Iranian-affiliated sites and arms shipments to Hezbollah.
In December, Israeli forces infiltrated a United Nations-monitored buffer zone in the Golan Heights and seized Syrian territory in that region. This action provoked widespread international criticism. Israel characterized the incursion as temporary and defensive.
