Jerusalem, Feb 17 (NationPress) Israel has successfully received a shipment of heavy MK-84 bombs after the US recently lifted a temporary prohibition on their delivery, according to the Israeli Defence Ministry.
The MK-84 is a 907-kg unguided munition designed for penetrating fortified targets and inflicting significant damage due to its powerful blast.
This recent delivery of munitions arrived at the Israeli port of Ashdod late Saturday and was "received and unloaded overnight," a spokesperson for the Defence Ministry stated on Sunday.
Video evidence released by the ministry depicted shipping containers being loaded onto numerous trucks, which, as per the ministry's report, transported them to the bases of Israel's Air Force, according to Xinhua news agency.
The administration of former US President Joe Biden had previously halted the delivery of MK-84 bombs to Israel due to concerns over their potential use and effects in densely populated regions of the Gaza Strip, where Israeli airstrikes and ground operations have resulted in tens of thousands of casualties since October 2023.
In the same statement, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz remarked that this latest shipment "constitutes a vital asset for the Air Force and the IDF (Israel Defense Forces)."
He expressed gratitude towards US President Donald Trump and his administration for the release of the bombs and for their "steadfast support" of Israel.
Since the onset of the Gaza conflict on October 7, 2023, over 76,000 tons of military supplies have been delivered to Israel through 678 airlifts and 129 sea transports, according to data from the Israeli Defence Ministry.
