Tel Aviv, June 22 (NationPress) The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) declared that the Israeli Air Force (IAF) has initiated a series of airstrikes against military installations in western Iran, following a missile assault executed by Iran earlier that day.

"The IAF has commenced a sequence of strikes directed at military objectives in western Iran," the IDF announced on X.

"Moreover, this morning, the IAF targeted missile launchers poised to fire at Israeli territory, as well as personnel in the Iranian Armed Forces, swiftly neutralizing the launchers that had recently fired missiles towards Israel," it stated.

Earlier, the IDF had reported that Iran had launched over 30 ballistic missiles at Israel on Sunday.

This escalation followed a military strike conducted by the United States on three of Iran's nuclear facilities.

According to emergency services, Magen David Adom (MDA), at least 16 individuals have sustained injuries in the most recent missile barrage. One man in his 30s suffered moderate shrapnel wounds, while 15 others incurred minor injuries.

Among the injured are two children who were treated for minor injuries at Ichilov Medical Center in Tel Aviv.

The missiles impacted various locations throughout central Israel, with one striking Haifa without any advance warning sirens, raising concerns about potential weaknesses in the missile alert system.

Sirens were activated in other regions, prompting civilians to seek refuge in bomb shelters as directed by the Home Front Command.

MDA CEO Eli Bin confirmed that emergency teams are currently attending to over ten impact sites, assisting victims and assessing the damage caused by the missile strikes and shrapnel.

This Iranian response occurred after US President Donald Trump confirmed that American forces had bombed Iran's nuclear sites at Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.

Trump described these strikes as the most "challenging and lethal" operation in recent decades.

The air conflict between the two nations ignited on June 13 when Israel executed a surprise strike on Iran.

Israeli officials asserted that the offensive was a preemptive move to prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons, a goal Iran has consistently denied.

The ongoing conflict has escalated tensions throughout the region, which is already on high alert due to Israel's extended war in Gaza since October 2023.

The latest exchanges have now involved the United States in a direct military role.

Point of View

The actions taken by Israel reflect a significant escalation in a long-standing conflict. The IDF's proactive measures are aimed at safeguarding national security amidst ongoing threats. However, this situation also underscores the complex geopolitical dynamics in the region, which require careful navigation to avoid further escalation.
