Israeli Defence Minister Identifies Potential for Hostage Release Amid Ceasefire Negotiations

Jerusalem, Dec 12 (NationPress) Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz indicated that a favorable opportunity exists to facilitate the release of all hostages remaining in Gaza via a ceasefire agreement.

"Currently, there is a possibility for a new accord, ideally leading to the release of all hostages, including those who are American citizens," Katz stated during a phone conversation with US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

According to Katz's office, the two leaders addressed various topics, encompassing the renewed discussions regarding a ceasefire in Gaza.

The ceasefire negotiations have recommenced following a truce agreement that concluded the conflict between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah. No significant progress has been reported yet in the mediated discussions between Israel and Hamas.

Approximately 100 hostages continue to be held by Hamas in Gaza.
