Tel Aviv, June 24 (NationPress) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Tuesday that Israel has accepted a ceasefire proposal from Iran, effectively concluding 12 days of fierce conflict between the two nations.
In a formal announcement from the Prime Minister's Office, Netanyahu stated that Israel has successfully achieved all strategic objectives of its military operation, known as Operation Rising Lion, and exceeded expectations.
"Israel has not only accomplished the goals of Operation Rising Lion but has gone above and beyond. We have neutralized a dual existential threat in both the nuclear and ballistic missile spheres," the official statement indicated.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reportedly gained total air superiority over Tehran, dealt a significant blow to Iranian military leadership, and targeted numerous important regime sites within Iran.
"In the last 24 hours, the IDF conducted intense strikes on regime targets deep within Tehran, resulting in the elimination of hundreds of Basij operatives—an enforcement arm of the terror regime—and another senior nuclear scientist," according to Netanyahu's office.
Netanyahu expressed appreciation to US President Donald Trump and the United States for their support in Israel's operations and for their involvement in mitigating the Iranian nuclear threat.
"Given the successful outcomes of the operation, and with full coordination with President Trump, Israel has consented to the President's proposal for a bilateral ceasefire," he added.
However, just before the ceasefire took effect, Iran launched a final wave of ballistic missiles aimed at Israel.
One missile impacted a residential structure in Beersheba, leading to the deaths of four civilians. Iranian state media later clarified that these missiles were fired before the ceasefire was formally enacted.
Netanyahu's office cautioned of serious repercussions for any future breaches of the ceasefire, stating, "Israel will react decisively to any violation of the ceasefire."
US President Trump confirmed the ceasefire via his social media platform, Truth Social, declaring that the truce between Iran and Israel is now in effect.
He urged both countries to strictly adhere to the ceasefire and to prevent further escalation.
This ceasefire follows nearly two weeks of rising violence triggered by Israel's Operation Rising Lion, which focused on key Iranian military and nuclear resources.
In retaliation, Iran launched missile strikes against Israeli cities and later targeted US military bases in Qatar and Iraq. Tehran's actions were in response to American airstrikes on its nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.
