Dhaka, Sep 6 (NationPress) The central office of Bangladesh's Jatiya Party (JaPa) in Dhaka has faced another act of vandalism and arson by unidentified individuals for the second time in the last ten days, as reported by local media on Saturday.
The latest incident transpired late on Friday night, shortly after members of another political faction, the Gono Odhikar Parishad, conducted a rally at Shahbagh in the capital, where they demanded a ban on JaPa.
Rozina Akhter, the duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence control room, confirmed, "We received information around 7:00 p.m. that some individuals threw bricks and stones at the Jatiya Party office before igniting it."
This assault marks the second attack within a week, amid escalating political violence across Bangladesh under the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus.
According to a report by the Dhaka Tribune, Ramna police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Sajjad Hossain noted, "Suddenly, a group of miscreants attacked the Jatiya Party office, vandalizing various pieces of furniture and setting fire to the premises."
JaPa Secretary General Shameem Haider Patwary vehemently condemned the assault, attributing responsibility to Gono Odhikar Parishad.
He remarked, "The government must initiate a judicial inquiry into this incident. If they are found guilty, Gono Odhikar's party registration should be revoked."
During a press briefing, JaPa Praesidium Member Rezaul Karim indirectly criticized Gono Odhikar Parishad, asserting that those who organized the Shahbagh rally were behind the attack.
He further claimed that the interim government has failed to ensure safety and prevent mob violence. "Jatiya Party has a longstanding presence in Bangladesh, and it will continue to exist in the future," he added.
In response, Gono Odhikar Parishad has denied the allegations.
Reports indicate that a similar incident occurred on August 30, when JaPa's central office was vandalized and set ablaze following violent clashes between its activists and those of Gono Odhikar Parishad in Kakrail.
After that attack, the Awami League condemned the vandalism, looting, and arson at the JaPa office, asserting that the incident occurred with the direct support of the Yunus administration, which has been associated with rampant mob terrorism in Bangladesh.
Since the ousting of the democratically elected Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has been engulfed in violence and extreme lawlessness under the Yunus-led interim administration.
