Los Angeles, Sep 23 (NationPress) The acclaimed US late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! is set to make its comeback on the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) this Tuesday, just days after a suspension linked to comments regarding the conservative influencer Charlie Kirk's tragic death, as reported by ABC's parent company, The Walt Disney Company.
In a statement released on Monday, Disney explained, "Last Wednesday, we opted to halt production on the show to help prevent exacerbating an already sensitive situation in our nation."
The network further stated, "After meaningful discussions with Jimmy over the past few days, we decided to resume airing the show on Tuesday."
During his monologue last week, Kimmel implied that Tyler Robinson, the alleged perpetrator in Kirk's death, might have affiliations with pro-Trump Republicans.
"The MAGA Gang is desperately attempting to portray this individual who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything but one of their own, while trying to politicize the incident," Kimmel remarked.
ABC's decision to suspend the show received immediate commendation from former President Donald Trump. Trump and other administration officials accused the "radical left" of being accountable for Kirk's death, dismissing the Democrats' stance that political violence is an issue affecting both sides.
Last week, Brendan Carr, Chair of the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), warned that he might take action against Disney and ABC regarding Kimmel's comments, suggesting that the FCC could contemplate revoking licenses of ABC affiliate stations as a consequence, according to Xinhua news agency.
The suspension also incited considerable backlash from Hollywood celebrities and unions. Over 400 stars, including Tom Hanks and Jennifer Aniston, have signed an open letter from the American Civil Liberties Union backing Kimmel.
On September 18, the Nexstar Media Group, Inc. announced that their television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network would be preempting "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" for the foreseeable future.
Nexstar operates the largest local television broadcasting group in the United States, comprising leading network affiliates and more than 200 stations reaching approximately 220 million viewers, according to their official website.
