New Delhi, Oct 30 (NationPress) The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Thursday that India views Quad as a significant platform for dialogue on mutual interests among the four nations, and any upcoming leaders' summit will be arranged through diplomatic consultations involving India, Australia, Japan, and the United States (US).
India is set to host the next Quad Leaders' Summit, although specific dates are yet to be revealed.
During a weekly media briefing in New Delhi, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal was questioned about discussions held during the recent telephone call between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japan's new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
"The Prime Minister had a conversation with Japan's newly appointed PM. He congratulated her on taking office. Both leaders talked about India-Japan bilateral relations, which are crucial for us and have multiple dimensions; all these matters were discussed. Regarding the Quad, we regard it as a valuable platform for discussing shared interests across various domains among the four nations. Any leaders' summit will be organized through diplomatic consultations among the four partners," he stated.
Earlier this week, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese referred to Quad as an "important forum" and a "vital vehicle" for Australia, India, Japan, and the United States to engage.
While speaking at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, he expressed optimism that the Quad leaders meeting would occur in the first quarter of 2026.
When asked about his perspective on the future of Quad, Albanese replied, "The Quad is a crucial forum and an essential vehicle for us to engage Australia, the United States, Japan, and India. I'm hopeful that a meeting will take place in the first quarter of next year. Prime Minister Modi is set to host the Quad meeting. With a busy summit season upon us, President Trump is also occupied with travel to Japan and a meeting in Korea with President Xi. We appreciate the direct engagement between the two largest economies globally.
