Lebanon Finalizes $7.3 Million Agreement with France for Sustainable Agriculture Initiative

Beirut, Dec 19 (NationPress) Lebanon has successfully established a $7.3 million partnership with France to advance its sustainable agriculture efforts, according to Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA).
This agreement was formalized between the French Development Agency and CIHEAM Montpellier in the presence of Lebanese Agriculture Minister Abbas Hajj Hassan.
As reported by NNA, the signing took place in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, during a seminar dedicated to promoting sustainable agriculture.
The initiative aims to support approximately 2,500 Lebanese farmers in transitioning to eco-friendly practices and to assist over 150 cooperatives and private traders in enhancing their agricultural products, as indicated by Hajj Hassan's office.
The project also aims to elevate awareness regarding the significance of environmentally friendly agriculture and to promote public policies that facilitate this transition, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
CIHEAM Montpellier is one of the four institutes under CIHEAM, which stands for the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies, an intergovernmental organization based in France.
CIHEAM comprises 13 member states, including Albania, Algeria, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia, and Turkey.
The minister's office emphasized that the project will be executed over the next four years under the oversight of the Lebanese Agriculture Ministry.
France continues to be a significant political ally of Lebanon, as demonstrated by the robust political bilateral relations between the two nations and France's consistent support at the UN for resolutions aimed at safeguarding Lebanon's sovereignty. France is committed to the stability, unity, independence, and sovereignty of Lebanon and places special focus on fortifying the institutions of the Lebanese state to bolster its authority throughout the nation.
