Major Police Operation Leads to Over 100 Arrests of Drug Dealers in Sydney, Australia

Sydney, Dec 9 (NationPress) More than 100 individuals have been apprehended and charged during a significant police operation focused on drug dealers in Sydney, as reported by officials in New South Wales (NSW) on Monday.

Among the 108 individuals arrested and charged during the operation conducted over three weekends across Sydney, 64 individuals face charges related to the supply of a prohibited drug, while 44 individuals are charged with possession offenses. Additionally, one person has been charged with a domestic violence-related crime, according to reports from Xinhua news agency.

In NSW, individuals convicted of supplying a prohibited drug may face a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

During the arrests, officers from Strike Force Northrop recovered cocaine, MDMA, cannabis, ketamine, and methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of 210,000 Australian dollars (approximately $134,332).

Included in the arrests was a 22-year-old Korean national, who was reportedly found in possession of 21 bags of cocaine and 60 doses of MDMA. He faces three counts of supplying a prohibited drug and one count related to dealing with the proceeds of crime.

NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Peter McKenna emphasized that the operation underscores Strike Force Northrop's dedication to fighting the illegal drug trade.

"Regardless of whether they are major suppliers, mid-level dealers, or street-level traffickers, I will continue to allocate resources to disrupt their activities and hold them accountable for their criminal actions," he stated in an official release.

This strike force has been operational since 2017, focusing on drug dealers in Sydney.
