Lucknow, Sep 12 (NationPress) The Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navinchandra Ramgoolam, paid his respects by offering prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday. He was joined by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel during this significant visit to the temple.
Images shared by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on the social media platform X, depict Ramgoolam and his spouse engaged in prayer at the temple.
In his post on X, Jaiswal noted, "PM Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam of Mauritius offered prayers at the sacred Kashi Vishwanath Dham in Varanasi, highlighting the profound cultural and civilizational ties linking India and Mauritius."
On the previous evening, Ramgoolam also attended the Ganga Aarti at the ghats of Varanasi.
Jaiswal further mentioned on X, "Experiencing the sacred connection with the Holy Ganga. PM Ramgoolam of Mauritius witnessed Ganga Aarti at Varanasi today, symbolizing the timeless bonds of faith and tradition that unite India and Mauritius."
It is noteworthy that PM Ramgoolam is currently on an eight-day journey through India. He had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, where the two leaders evaluated various facets of bilateral collaboration and agreed to enhance cooperation in areas like infrastructure, healthcare, digital technology, energy, maritime security, and more.
Post the meeting, PM Modi expressed in a post, "Earlier today, I welcomed Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam to Varanasi. His visit to Kashi holds special significance given the cultural importance of this city and the strong cultural ties between India and Mauritius. We reviewed all aspects of bilateral cooperation and discussed both regional and global issues, agreeing to strengthen cooperation in infrastructure, healthcare, digital technology, energy, maritime security, and beyond."
During a joint press conference with PM Modi, Ramgoolam commended India's ongoing support over the years, emphasizing that Mauritius has greatly benefited from India's expertise in crucial sectors of national development such as health, education, and capacity-building.
"The reception we have received is unparalleled for any Prime Minister, and I am grateful it is in your constituency. It is evident why you are elected with such overwhelming support... Over the years, India, through various governments, has stood by Mauritius in its journey towards progress and development.
