Mexico, Dec 12 (NationPress) Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum asserted that her government will protect the nation's sovereignty irrespective of who is appointed as the United States ambassador to Mexico, following the recent announcement by US President-elect Donald Trump.
"With this ambassador or any other, we will defend our sovereignty and equal status," the President stated during her regular press briefing at the National Palace on Wednesday.
Sheinbaum expressed her belief that there would be collaboration, emphasizing that they will always strive to protect Mexico and uphold its dignity without yielding to the demands of the United States alone.
She highlighted the necessity of advancing the bilateral agenda, which includes tackling arms trafficking from the United States into Mexico, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
On Tuesday evening, Trump revealed through his Truth Social platform that his ambassador to Mexico will be retired colonel Ronald Johnson, a former CIA officer and Army Special Forces member who previously served as ambassador to El Salvador during Trump's first term.
Trump noted that Johnson "will work closely with our esteemed Secretary of State Nominee, Marco Rubio, to enhance our Nation's security and prosperity through robust America First Foreign Policies."
