Port Louis, March 12 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in meaningful discussions with his Mauritian counterpart Navinchandra Ramgoolam, assessing the state of bilateral ties, the ongoing collaborations, and exploring new opportunities to further enhance the unique relationship between the two nations, during their meeting in Port Louis on Tuesday.

"I had a wonderful meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam this evening. I expressed my appreciation for his invitation to partake in the National Day celebrations of Mauritius and for his thoughtful gestures during my visit. I also conveyed my gratitude to PM Ramgoolam for the honor of being bestowed with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean," PM Modi shared after the discussions.

In a notable gesture reflecting the strong bond between India and Mauritius, both leaders traveled together to the banquet hosted by the Mauritian PM in honor of the visiting Indian leader, highlighting the growing partnership that has flourished significantly over the past decade under PM Modi's leadership.

Notably, PM Ramgoolam warmly welcomed PM Modi at the airport early Tuesday morning.

During their discussions, PM Modi emphasized that India takes pride in being a trusted development partner for Mauritius, and both countries aim to collaborate for the benefit of the Global South.

"Key topics we discussed included defense, security, economic ties, cultural exchanges, and more," PM Modi stated.

Earlier that evening, PM Modi spoke at a community event in Port Louis that celebrated the deep cultural and emotional connections between the citizens of both nations.

"Mauritius is not merely a partner nation. To us, Mauritius is family," said PM Modi while addressing a lively gathering of the Indian community and friends of India at the Trianon Convention Centre.

"The presence of my friend, Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, and Mrs. Veena Ramgoolam made today’s community event in Mauritius even more significant. I also presented OCI cards to them, showcasing the value he places on the India-Mauritius friendship," PM Modi concluded.
