Brasilia, July 8 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in the capital of Brazil on Monday, greeted by a lively performance of traditional Brazilian Samba Reggae following a successful trip to Rio de Janeiro for the 17th BRICS Summit. He was welcomed at the airport by Brazilian Defence Minister Jose Mucio Monteiro Filho.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared on X: "Taking new strides in 🇮🇳-🇧🇷 steadfast partnership. PM @narendramodi has landed in the capital city of Brasilia on a State Visit to Brazil. On arrival, he was warmly received by Mr. José Múcio Monteiro Filho, Minister of Defence of 🇧🇷, at the airport. The welcome was made delightfully musical by the traditional Brazilian Samba Reggae performance."

Just hours before arriving in Brasilia, PM Modi described his Rio de Janeiro visit as "very productive."

"Now on the way to Brasília for the State Visit. I will engage in detailed discussions with President Lula regarding various facets of India-Brazil relations. The Rio segment of my Brazil visit was indeed fruitful. We had extensive dialogues at the BRICS Summit. I commend President Lula and the Brazilian Government for their efforts during their BRICS Presidency in enhancing this platform's effectiveness. During the BRICS session focused on Environment, COP-30, and Global Health, PM Modi reiterated that tackling climate change and ensuring environmental safety have always been among India's top priorities. "For us, it's not just about energy; it's about achieving harmony between life and nature," he stated.

"I am pleased that under Brazil's leadership, BRICS has prioritized critical issues like environmental and health security. These topics are inherently interconnected and essential for humanity's bright future.

"This year, COP-30 is being hosted in Brazil, making discussions on environmental matters at BRICS both pertinent and timely. Climate change and environmental safety have consistently remained at the forefront for India. For us, it's not merely numbers; it is woven into our daily lives and traditions. In our culture, we revere the Earth as a mother. Therefore, when Mother Earth calls upon us, we respond. We are transforming our mindset, behavior, and lifestyles," the Prime Minister articulated.

He further elaborated: "Driven by the ethos of 'People, Planet, and Progress,' India has initiated several key programs — such as Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' (A Tree in the Name of Mother), the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, the Green Hydrogen Mission, the Global Biofuels Alliance, and the Big Cats Alliance.

"During India's G20 Presidency, we emphasized sustainable development and focused on bridging the divide between the Global North and South. To this end, we achieved consensus among all nations on the Green Development Pact. To promote environmentally friendly actions, we also launched the Green Credits Initiative."
