Washington, Feb 13 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi has landed in the US on Wednesday (local time) for a two-day visit, at the invitation of US President Donald Trump.

"Just arrived in Washington DC. I eagerly anticipate my meeting with @POTUS Donald Trump, aiming to enhance the India-USA Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. Our nations will continue to collaborate closely for the welfare of our citizens and strive for a brighter future for our world," PM Modi stated in a message on X.

Despite the chilly weather, members of the Indian community gathered outside Blair House to greet the Prime Minister, who responded with heartfelt acknowledgments.

During his visit, PM Modi will stay at Blair House, located at 1651 Pennsylvania Avenue, directly across from the White House. This esteemed 70,000-square-foot residence has housed many notable guests, including heads of state, royalty, and international leaders, and is recognized as a top diplomatic location.

The historic Blair House plays a crucial role in fostering diplomatic relations and international discussions, serving as an extension of the White House.

Before his departure, PM Modi indicated that this visit aims to enhance existing collaborations and create new avenues for partnership between the two nations.

In his remarks before leaving, PM Modi noted, "This will be our first face-to-face meeting after his remarkable electoral victory and inauguration in January, and I have fond memories of our collaborative efforts during his first term to forge a Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between India and the US."

"This visit will provide a platform to build on the achievements of our cooperation during his initial term and outline an agenda to further strengthen and deepen our partnership, especially in technology, trade, defense, energy, and supply chain resilience. Together, we will work for the mutual benefit of our nations and contribute to a better future for the globe," he added.

Since November 2024, the leaders have engaged in two phone conversations.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar was present at Trump's inauguration ceremony and later met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, participating in the QUAD Foreign Ministers' meeting held in January 2025.

After his visit to France lasting three days, PM Modi met with US Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday (local time).

Their discussions focused on shared interests, including the possibility of US assistance in India's energy diversification through investments in clean, "reliable" US nuclear technology, as stated by the White House.
