What Strict Terms Does Israeli PM Demand in Any Iran Deal?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jerusalem, Feb 16 (NationPress) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that any prospective agreement with Iran should necessitate the elimination of nuclear materials, a cessation of uranium enrichment, and stringent controls on ballistic missiles, expressing doubts regarding Tehran's true intentions.
During a public conference on Sunday, following a meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington, Netanyahu stated that Trump was "determined to explore all options in pursuit of a deal, which he feels is achievable at this moment."
Nevertheless, Netanyahu conveyed his skepticism, asserting, "I remain doubtful about any agreement with Iran."
He also indicated that Israel aims to transform its relationship with Washington from one of mere aid to a true partnership and is focused on developing a self-reliant domestic defense industry, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Commenting on the military operations in Gaza, Netanyahu mentioned that Israel has dismantled approximately 150 km of a total of 500 km of tunnels. "We must finish the task," he asserted. "This also entails ensuring that Hamas cannot conceal weapons factories or facilities they use to rearm and regroup, which they definitely do."
Israel is currently "allowing a chance" for the Gaza ceasefire initiative but is prepared to recommence military action if required to eliminate Hamas, he stated.
Since the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel took effect on October 10, 2025, Israeli forces have reportedly killed 601 Palestinians and injured 1,607 others, according to statistics released by health authorities in Gaza on Sunday.
