Seoul, Feb 15 (NationPress) Strengthening self-defensive capabilities is a crucial necessity for deterring the provocative actions of rivals and safeguarding national security, stated Pyongyang on Saturday.
The strategic armed forces of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) are tasked with ensuring the state's security and maintaining the strategic equilibrium in the region, especially in light of a recent US nuclear-powered submarine's presence in the Korean Peninsula and the planned large-scale military exercises by the US and South Korean forces, which serve as justifications for the DPRK's enhancement of its defense capabilities, according to the Chief of the Policy Office of the country's defense ministry.
It is the inherent right of a sovereign state to progressively develop a self-defense capability that can effectively address all security threats and safeguard national security and regional strategic balance, the chief stated, as reported by the official Korean Central News Agency.
The United States is posing a significant threat to the security landscape of the Korean Peninsula and globally by pursuing a reckless arms buildup and radical modernization of its nuclear forces, the chief asserted.
Recently, the US alleged that the DPRK has achieved the capability to target the entirety of North America with nuclear weapons, claiming that the DPRK's Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) forces represent a threat to the US mainland and its missile defense systems, which the chief criticized as 'a brigandish sophism akin to a guilty party filing the suit first.'
The DPRK has voiced serious concerns over 'the US military's confrontational actions aimed at shaping public opinion regarding the non-existent 'threat' from the DPRK, thereby justifying its aggressive military ambitions to achieve regional superiority under this pretext,' the chief was cited by Xinhua news agency.
If the United States genuinely cares about the security of its own territory, the only effective measure to address this is to completely renounce its military threats and hostile policies toward independent sovereign states, the chief concluded.
