Over 335,000 Individuals Impacted by Rain-Induced Catastrophes in Sri Lanka

Colombo, Nov 28 (NationPress) More than 335,000 individuals have been impacted by severe weather events in Sri Lanka beginning on November 22, as reported by the nation's Disaster Management Centre (DMC) on Thursday.

The DMC provided its most recent situation report indicating that 335,155 individuals from 99,876 families have suffered due to rain-related incidents across 23 of the 25 administrative districts in the country, according to Xinhua news agency.

Tragically, twelve lives have been lost due to these disasters, with 17 injuries reported and two individuals missing, as stated by the DMC.

The DMC also noted that 95 homes were completely destroyed and 1,708 homes sustained partial damage.

The Department of Meteorology warned on Thursday that a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected to approach the eastern coast of Sri Lanka and could strengthen into a cyclonic storm.
