Islamabad, Oct 8 (NationPress) Pakistan has experienced a striking 46 percent increase in violence during the third quarter of 2025, leading to at least 901 deaths and 599 injuries among civilians, security forces, and criminals. This surge has resulted from 329 incidents of violence, including terror assaults and counter-terror operations, according to a report from the Islamabad-based Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS).
According to the CRSS report, 2025 is on track to exceed last year's casualty numbers, attributing this to a rise in militant activities and a broader scope of counter-terrorism efforts. The organization cautions that if the present trajectory continues, 2025 could become one of the deadliest years in a decade.
In just three quarters, 2025 has nearly matched the total fatalities of 2024, with 2,414 deaths recorded compared to last year's 2,546, and there’s still a quarter left in the year.
“A year-on-year comparison highlights this alarming trend. From January to September 2024 (Q1-Q3), Pakistan saw 1,527 fatalities. The 2,414 fatalities for the same period in 2025 represents a 58 percent increase in violent incidents. However, the source of these fatalities has shifted; in 2024, security operations accounted for 505 deaths (33 percent), while terror attacks resulted in 1,022 deaths. In 2025, security operations have caused 1,265 deaths—more than half of the total fatalities,” the CRSS report detailed.
The report underscores that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan have been the most affected provinces, accounting for over 96 percent of the violence this quarter. KP was the worst-affected area, responsible for nearly 71 percent (638) of the fatalities linked to violence and over 67 percent (221) of the incidents, followed by Balochistan, which recorded over 25 percent of the fatalities (230) and incidents (85). The number of deaths, injuries, and violent occurrences in other regions remained relatively low.
While outlaws may have suffered the majority of the recorded fatalities in the second quarter, civilians were the most targeted group in terms of attacks and injuries. Civilians were affected in nearly 123 terror attacks, while security personnel faced around 106 incidents and outlaws were targeted in about 100 security operations. Furthermore, civilians endured 355 injuries, compared to 209 among security officials and 35 among outlaws.
