Washington, Sep 13 (NationPress) A naturalized citizen of the United States, originally from Pakistan and currently living in Wayne County, Michigan, faces charges for the attempted kidnapping of a minor, as reported by federal authorities.
US Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr., together with Acting Special Agent in Charge Matthew Stentz from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Detroit, has revealed that a criminal complaint has been made public against a 46-year-old man named Shahzad Hameedi.
The complaint indicates that Hameedi initiated a romantic relationship with a single mother in Windsor, Canada, using the alias Sheraz Hameed. When she limited his access to her child, Hameedi plotted to kidnap the child in June 2025.
In an official statement released on Thursday, the US Attorney General’s office mentioned that investigators discovered a laminated ransom note. Evidence suggested that Hameedi had looked into tranquilizers and had gathered materials including a stun gun, a toddler life vest, zip ties, duct tape, rubber gloves, and potent cold medication with a funnel.
Additionally, the evidence indicated that Hameedi crossed the border into Canada covertly and attempted to enter the child’s residence at night, where he allegedly tried to strangle the mother before fleeing. Just two days later, he re-entered the home and assaulted the child.
“The defendant’s purported scheme to abduct a young child by sneaking across the border and breaking into a mother’s home at night, while strangling her and subsequently assaulting her innocent child two days later, is horrific. No parent or child should endure such malevolence. We will ensure that the full weight of the law is applied against violent offenders,” stated US Attorney Gorgon.
“HSI is dedicated to collaborating with our Canadian partners to ensure that criminals are held accountable and to protect innocent children on both sides of the Northern border. I commend the HSI agents, the Windsor Police Service, and the prosecutors for their relentless efforts in this case,” added Acting Special Agent in Charge Stentz.
The investigation is being conducted by HSI in partnership with the Windsor Police Service.
