Kolkata, June 28 (NationPress) Law enforcement officials have detained two additional suspects in relation to the tragic death of a young girl in Kaliganj, located in the Nadia district of West Bengal.
The individuals taken into custody have been named as Gawal Sheikh and his son Bimal Sheikh, according to a statement from the superintendent of Krishnanagar Police District released on Saturday morning.
Gawal is considered the primary suspect in this case, as indicated by the report submitted by the victim's mother, Tamanna Khatun.
In her report filed at the Kaliganj Police Station, the victim's mother accused Gawal of orchestrating attacks using crude bombs aimed at her home.
With these latest arrests, the total number of individuals apprehended in this case has risen to nine.
The other suspects include Adar Sheikh, Manowar Sheikh, Kalu Sheikh, Anwar Sheikh, Habibul Sheikh, Nabab Sheikh, and Sariful Sheikh.
“Ongoing investigations and legal actions are in progress,” read a statement from the Krishnanagar Police District.
Meanwhile, 15 additional suspects named in the complaint by the victim's mother remain at large.
Reports suggest that Tamanna was fatally injured by bomb shrapnel during a celebratory procession by the Trinamool Congress, which was held to honor the victory of party candidate Alifa Ahmed in the Kaliganj by-elections, the results of which were announced on June 23.
The victim's mother has alleged that law enforcement officials are neglecting the political motivations behind the bombing incidents targeting her home, which resulted in her daughter’s death.
She claims that her household was deliberately targeted due to her family's long-standing ideological ties to the CPI(M).
This week, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken notice of the situation and has requested clarifications from the Krishnanagar District Superintendent of Police, Amarnath K, whose jurisdiction includes Kaliganj.
