Kolkata, Sep 13 (NationPress) After a prolonged wait of 84 days, the state police has finally submitted the initial chargesheet concerning the murder of Tamanna Khatun, a minor girl who lost her life in a crude bomb incident at Kaliganj in Nadia district of West Bengal on June 23 this year.
The by-elections for the Kaliganj assembly seat took place on June 19, and the results were declared on June 23.
Following the victory of Trinamool Congress candidate Alifa Ahmed by a significant margin, the supporters of the ruling party celebrated with a procession during which crude bombs were thrown towards Tamanna Khatun's home, resulting in her tragic death.
Her parents have contended that their house was specifically targeted due to their political ties with CPI(M). From the outset, they have accused the Krishnanagar District Police, responsible for the Kaliganj area, of attempting to protect the actual perpetrators behind their daughter's death.
The mother of the victim has claimed that even though she identified 28 individuals in her complaint, only 10 individuals were arrested by the investigation team.
“On Saturday, when the chargesheet was submitted at a lower court in Kolkata, it only included those who had been arrested,” the victim's mother stated.
Conversely, Deputy Superintendent of Krishnanagar District Police, S.S. Paul, confirmed that this is indeed the first chargesheet naming only 10 individuals.
“A supplementary chargesheet will soon follow, adding the names of additional accused parties,” Paul stated.
Paul also mentioned that if the investigation by the district police is found to be unduly sluggish, they would consider appealing to the Calcutta High Court for intervention or potentially requesting a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the case.
