Manila, Oct 2 (NationPress) The Philippine government officially declared the end of search, rescue, and retrieval operations on Thursday in the four municipalities that experienced the most significant impact from a devastating 6.9-magnitude earthquake on Tuesday.
According to a statement from the Philippines' Office of Civil Defence, the operations in the municipalities of San Remigio, Daanbantayan, Medellin, and the City of Bogo, located in Cebu Province, were concluded on Thursday afternoon, as reported by Xinhua News Agency.
The OCD stated, "The decision to conclude operations was based on thorough ground validation and ongoing collaboration with local responders, confirming that all reported missing individuals have been located and that no additional signs of trapped persons were found."
With the critical phase of life-saving efforts finished, the focus will now shift to relief, early recovery, and rehabilitation initiatives.
"As we have highlighted, we are now transitioning from saving lives to sustaining them," the statement emphasized.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that the 6.9-magnitude offshore earthquake in Cebu Province has resulted in 72 fatalities and nearly 300 injuries.
This earthquake struck the northern region of Cebu Province at 9:59 p.m. local time on Tuesday, occurring at a depth of 5 km, approximately 19 km northeast of Bogo City.
Located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, the Philippines is particularly susceptible to earthquakes and volcanic activities.
As of Thursday, the disaster management agency reported that the death toll from the 6.9 earthquake in Cebu Province has officially risen to 72.
The NDRRMC has confirmed that at least 294 individuals sustained injuries during the quake.
The council also noted that 30 of the fatalities were recorded in Bogo City, the worst-affected area, with 22 in San Remigio, 12 in Medellin, five in Tabogon, and one each in the municipalities of Sogod, Tabuelan, and Borbon.
