Rio de Janeiro, July 8 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for Brasilia today following his participation in the 17th BRICS Summit held in Brazil. In the capital, he is scheduled to engage in discussions with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva regarding various aspects of India-Brazil relations.
In a post on X, PM Modi characterized his visit to Rio de Janeiro as highly productive.
"Now en route to Brasília for a State Visit. I will engage in comprehensive discussions with President Lula on multiple facets of India-Brazil ties," he stated.
"My time in Rio was very fruitful. We had meaningful discussions at the BRICS Summit. I commend President Lula and the Brazilian government for their significant contributions during their BRICS Presidency in enhancing the effectiveness of this platform. My bilateral meetings with global leaders will further strengthen India’s connections with various nations," PM Modi expressed on X.
On the same day, PM Modi extolled BRICS for prioritizing vital issues like environment and health security. He emphasized that these matters are critical for a promising future for humanity, stating that for India, climate justice is a moral imperative rather than a mere option.
While addressing the BRICS session on Environment, COP-30, and Global Health, PM Modi reaffirmed that climate change and environmental protection have always been of paramount importance for India. "For us, it transcends energy; it’s about achieving harmony between life and nature," the Prime Minister asserted.
"I am pleased that under Brazil's leadership, BRICS has accorded significant focus to crucial topics such as environmental and health security. These issues are interlinked and pivotal for the future of humanity.
"The upcoming COP-30 in Brazil makes discussions on environmental matters within BRICS both timely and pertinent. Climate change and environmental safety have consistently been top priorities for India. It is not merely about energy; it is about maintaining equilibrium between life and nature. While some regard this as mere statistics, in India, it is woven into our daily existence and traditions. Our culture venerates the Earth as a mother. Thus, when our Mother Earth calls for aid, we respond. We are evolving our mindset, behavior, and lifestyle," the Prime Minister remarked.
He went on to say: "Driven by the ethos of 'People, Planet, and Progress', India has initiated several significant projects, including Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' (A Tree in the Name of Mother), the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, the Green Hydrogen Mission, the Global Biofuels Alliance, and the Big Cats Alliance.
"During India’s G20 Presidency, we emphasized sustainable development and narrowing the divide between the Global North and South. We successfully reached a consensus on the Green Development Pact. To promote eco-friendly initiatives, we also launched the Green Credits Initiative.
