Luanda, Nov 11 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday wrapped up her State Visit to Angola and set off for Botswana, marking the second and concluding phase of her two-country journey.
During her visit to Botswana from November 11-13, she is invited by Duma Gideon Boko, the President of Botswana. This State visit highlights India's dedication to enhancing its enduring and amicable relations with Botswana.
As per the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), President Murmu is slated to engage in bilateral discussions with Botswana's President on Wednesday. Additionally, she will address the National Assembly of Botswana, meet with members of the Indian community residing there, and explore culturally and historically significant sites.
This visit, emblematic of India’s unwavering resolve to strengthen its ties with the African continent, is anticipated to inject new energy into collaborative initiatives with Botswana and bolster cooperation in innovative sectors for mutual advantage.
Next year, India and Botswana will commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations.
The Vision 2036 framework of Botswana highlights its ambitions to diversify its economy and transition into a high-income nation. In this context, the visit will serve as a platform to understand their priorities and explore potential partnerships between the Indian business community and their Botswana counterparts in key sectors. Furthermore, we are in discussions with Botswana regarding the translocation of cheetahs to India as part of Project Cheetah, with expectations of significant progress in this area,” stated MEA's Secretary (ER) Sudhakar Dalela prior to the President's journey.
Earlier in the day, President Murmu took part in the commemorative events for the 50th anniversary of Angola's Independence Day in Luanda, where she observed the civil and military traditions of the African nation.
