Key Takeaways
Tehran, June 10 (NationPress) The Iranian atomic authority's leader has revealed that Russia is set to build eight nuclear power plants in Iran based on a prior agreement between the two nations, according to a report from the official news agency IRNA.
The President of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Mohammad Eslami, made these statements on Monday during a visit by the Iranian parliament's national security and foreign policy committee to the AEOI headquarters in Tehran, as reported by Xinhua.
Eslami noted that half of the planned nuclear reactors, specifically four, will be established in the southern province of Bushehr.
He also informed lawmakers about the current development of units 2 and 3 at the operational Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, highlighting that these units are under construction by Iranian firms.
After the parliamentary delegation's visit, Eslami stated that the AEOI aims to triple Iran's nuclear power generation capacity as part of its extensive energy development plan.
The Bushehr facility, completed by Russia in May 2011, stands as Iran's first and only functioning nuclear power plant, playing a pivotal role in the nation's civilian nuclear energy agenda and has historically involved collaboration with Rosatom, Russia's state nuclear agency.
