Dera Ismail Khan Enforces Section 144 Amid Rising Tensions
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Islamabad, March 9 (NationPress) Authorities in Dera Ismail Khan, located in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, have enacted Section 144 due to escalating law and order challenges. This decision has led to restrictions on movement across various roads and sensitive zones, as confirmed by local media on Monday through an official notice.
Dera Ismail Khan's Deputy Commissioner, Abdul Nasir Khan, announced that these limitations would be in place from 6 am to 6 pm (local time). During these hours, the transit of passenger vehicles, cargo trucks, and motorcycles will be forbidden in certain designated areas, as reported by Pakistan's prominent daily, Dawn.
The directive indicates that the Dera-Tank Road from Tariq Shaheed to Bhugowal will be closed, along with several other routes, including Kulachi-Hathala Road, Kot Attal Road, and Garah Abdullah Road.
Moreover, various link roads, such as Tikwarah-Hathala Road, Pota Badh, Kanori-Garah Mohabbat, and the road connecting Chehkan village to Darbari, will also be inaccessible. Additionally, Pota Hathala Bazaar will be closed during the specified hours.
Emergency services, including law enforcement and ambulances, will be exempt from these restrictions. Limited movement may be permitted in emergencies, subject to police or security personnel authorization, as reported by Dawn.
Authorities have urged individuals to carry identification while traveling and to adhere to instructions from law enforcement officials. This initiative aims to maintain public safety and order within the district.
Previously, on February 28, Section 144 was also implemented in various regions of Dera Ismail Khan to safeguard public welfare and avert any possible incidents amid rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The latest wave of hostilities commenced when Taliban-affiliated Afghan forces initiated retaliatory actions against Pakistani military sites on February 27, following Pakistan's military actions targeting individuals within Afghan territory on February 21. In response to Afghanistan's assaults, Pakistan launched 'Operation Ghazab lil-Haq' (Righteous Fury).
