London, June 22 (NationPress) Seven individuals have faced charges of grievous bodily harm following a violent confrontation that occurred outside the Iranian Embassy in London. Authorities indicated that the situation stemmed from a protest that turned into a physical clash.
The Metropolitan Police reported that officers were dispatched to the scene near Princes Gate in Knightsbridge, west London, shortly after 09:50 am (local time) on Friday.
Police, already present at the embassy, acted quickly to intervene, with additional units called in to manage the escalating situation.
Two men, aged 37 and 39, were transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
As per the Metropolitan Police, eight individuals were apprehended in relation to the incident, including the 39-year-old who was injured.
By Saturday, seven of those taken into custody were formally charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent under Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. All of the accused are Iranian nationals.
They have been held in custody and are set to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday, June 23.
The police identified those charged as Mohammad Nadiri, 30; Pourrezaei Vahid, 41; Armin Hasanlov, 35; Esmaeil Balouchy, 50; Saeed Hosseingholipoor, 34; Farzin Suleimani, 31; and Aref Yazdan Parast, 31.
The eighth individual arrested remains hospitalized and has been bailed while the investigation continues, according to the Metropolitan Police.
In light of the incident and to deter further unrest, police have established conditions to limit protests in proximity to the Iranian Embassy.
These measures will stay in effect until 01:00 pm (local time) on Sunday.
