Ljubljana, Oct 16 (NationPress) The Slovenian Foreign Minister, Tanja Fajon, has expressed concerns regarding the fragile ceasefire in Gaza, highlighting the numerous complex challenges that lie ahead in executing the subsequent phase of the peace plan.

During her address to the parliamentary Foreign Policy Committee, Fajon underscored the precarious situation on the ground and pointed out that the humanitarian assistance entering the conflict-ridden Gaza Strip is still inadequate.

She emphasized that several critical issues remain unresolved, including governance and reconstruction efforts in Gaza, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

“Slovenia is dedicated to pursuing a political resolution that would lead to a lasting ceasefire in the Middle East and foster peaceful coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians,” Fajon stated.

She reiterated the necessity of establishing a Palestinian state in accordance with the two-state solution, underlining the essential role of the United Nations in creating a stable political framework for Palestinian governance, alongside the European Union's support in this process.

In a related development, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz issued a warning on Wednesday that if Hamas fails to demilitarize and return all hostages, Israel will resume military action.

This warning emerged on the sixth day of a tenuous ceasefire, during which Hamas handed over the remains of two additional hostages, claiming they were the last bodies in their possession.

Katz remarked, “If Hamas does not adhere to the agreement, Israel will, in coordination with the United States, restart hostilities to achieve a decisive victory over Hamas, change the circumstances in Gaza, and fulfill all war objectives.”

During a meeting earlier on Wednesday with military leaders, Katz instructed the military to formulate “a comprehensive strategy to defeat Hamas” should Israel opt to continue its operations in Gaza. He indicated that this plan would be necessary if Hamas does not comply with U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal and fighting needs to recommence.

Katz elaborated that, according to Trump’s plan, Hamas must return all deceased hostages and disarm. He asserted that Israel, in collaboration with an international coalition led by the United States, would work to eradicate all tunnels and terrorist infrastructure in Gaza, ensuring the region is demilitarized and poses no threat to Israel.
