South Korea: Civic Organizations Persist with Candlelight Vigils Demanding Yoon's Impeachment

Seoul, Dec 9 (NationPress) Civic organizations organized yet another candlelight vigil throughout the country on Monday, advocating for the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol due to the problems stemming from the previous week's unsuccessful martial law announcement.
Thousands of participants rallied in front of the National Assembly in Seoul, while additional groups convened in major urban areas, persistently calling for Yoon's removal from office, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
Yoon is under increasing pressure to resign after narrowly surviving an initial impeachment vote on Saturday, with the opposition pledging to make another attempt this week.
In the vicinity of Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul, hundreds of individuals, brandishing national flags, held a counter-rally opposing Yoon's impeachment, highlighting the political turmoil surrounding Yoon's situation, according to Yonhap news agency.
Meanwhile, lawmakers from the ruling People Power Party (PPP) encountered intense backlash after they chose to boycott the impeachment vote.
The impeachment proposal was dismissed due to insufficient attendance, as merely three members of the 108-member ruling party participated in the ballot.
On Sunday, Kim Jae-sub discovered a utility knife alongside a picket sign demanding Yoon's impeachment placed in front of his home in Seoul, while Cho Jung-hun experienced eggs being hurled at his office in Seoul.
Other PPP members received funeral flowers at their offices, signifying voters’ discontent with the PPP’s decision to abstain from the impeachment vote.
