Civic Organizations in South Korea Plan New Candlelight Vigil Demanding President's Impeachment

Seoul, Dec 9 (NationPress) Civic organizations in South Korea are gearing up to hold another candlelight vigil close to the National Assembly on Monday, aiming to demand the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol following the unsuccessful martial law declaration from last week.

The demonstration, spearheaded by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), which is among the largest labor union federations in the nation, is scheduled to commence at 6 pm near exit five of the National Assembly Station, as reported by the Yonhap news agency.

The KCTU has announced that it will conduct the rally at the same site daily, continuing from the significant protests that drew numerous demonstrators over the weekend.

Additionally, another progressive civic group known as Candlelight Action is set to organize a protest at 7 p.m., calling for the immediate impeachment and arrest of Yoon.

In contrast, conservative groups will hold a separate rally near Gwanghwamun in central Seoul, opposing Yoon's impeachment and vowing to persist with daily protests until Saturday.
