Bengaluru, Dec 13 (NationPress) All legislators and over 1,000 party workers from Karnataka are set to participate in the ‘Vote Chori’ protest at Ramleela Maidan in Delhi this Sunday, aiming to bolster the efforts of the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, stated state Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday.
While addressing the media in Bengaluru, Shivakumar remarked, “Our state initiated the ‘Vote Chori’ campaign with a significant gathering at Freedom Park in Bengaluru. Another pivotal event is scheduled for Sunday at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. An excess of 1,000 party workers from Karnataka has already arrived in Delhi.”
He noted that leaders from the party had journeyed to Delhi via train and flight from various regions of the state, highlighting that more than 100 MLAs and MLCs are expected to attend the gathering.
“I will also be present,” confirmed the state Congress chief.
Despite recent electoral setbacks, party leader Rahul Gandhi organized a similar event to heighten public awareness. “AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge is also spearheading the agitation. We are all united in support of this campaign,” Shivakumar affirmed.
When questioned about meeting top leaders on Saturday evening or Sunday morning, the Deputy CM mentioned that it would be too late upon his arrival in Delhi.
“I also need to respond to the notice issued by the Delhi Police regarding the ‘National Herald’ case. If time permits, I will attend to that,” he stated.
“My schedule is packed today. However, I will gather the necessary documents and join the Delhi event,” Shivakumar elaborated, indicating that MLAs and MLCs are arriving in Delhi independently.
“We have urged all our block presidents and legislators to engage in the campaign against ‘Vote Chori’,” he added.
“The Congress party highlighted this issue during the Karnataka Assembly elections. Through the Chilume organization, the BJP was allegedly misusing power, leading to the suspension of many officials. We will persist in addressing this matter and advocate for the rights of the common citizen. The Congress party has always defended democracy and the Constitution,” Shivakumar emphasized.
He asserted that while election outcomes may fluctuate, the party and its supporters will continuously strive to safeguard public rights.
In response to Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara’s remark about demolishing the homes of drug traffickers despite a Supreme Court ruling against such actions, Shivakumar stated that the minister spoke from personal experience.
“Why was there silence in Uttar Pradesh? What transpired there? These matters require discussion,” he expressed.
Regarding the Supreme Court’s order against demolishing the homes of accused individuals, which followed similar actions in Uttar Pradesh, Shivakumar mentioned that he would address the issue at a later time.
