South Korea: President Yoon Calls for Investigation into CIO Head and Police Officers for Attempting to Detain Him
Seoul, Jan 5 (NationPress) South Korea's President Yoon Suk Yeol's attorney announced plans to file a complaint this week seeking an inquiry into the head of the anti-corruption agency managing Yoon's martial law case and other law enforcement officials for their attempt to execute a detention warrant against him.

Seoul, Jan 5 (NationPress) The lawyer for South Korea's President Yoon Suk Yeol revealed on Sunday that a formal complaint will be submitted to the prosecution within the week. This action aims to initiate an investigation concerning the chief of the nation's anti-corruption agency responsible for overseeing Yoon's martial law case, along with other police officers, for their attempt to enforce a warrant for Yoon's detention.

The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) made an unsuccessful effort to implement the court's warrant for Yoon's detention on Friday. This led to a tense standoff with the Presidential Security Service, which lasted six hours before the CIO opted to withdraw its personnel, citing safety issues.

Yun Gap-geun, Yoon's defense lawyer, stated in a media briefing that his team intends to file the complaint on Monday against approximately 150 law enforcement agents, including CIO chief Oh Dong-woon, as reported by Yonhap news agency.

"The accusations will focus on charges such as obstruction of justice, illegal entry into premises, and breaches of military facility protection regulations," Yun remarked.

The group of 150 individuals includes senior prosecutors at the CIO, acting National Police Agency Commissioner-General Lee Ho-young, and acting Defense Minister Kim Seon-ho.

Yoon's legal representatives have accused these officials of deploying police special forces to enforce the court order, even though they lack the legal jurisdiction to direct police actions.

During the altercation, several members of the Presidential Security Service were injured while thwarting the investigation team from gaining entry to the military security area by forcefully breaching the main gate of Yoon's residence.

The defense highlighted that the police and defense ministry failed to uphold their responsibilities by ignoring requests from the presidential security and acting President Choi Sang-mok to bolster security around Yoon's residence.

"Noncompliance with directives is a grave issue that threatens the integrity of the presidential security system, which is critical to national safety," they stated. "We aim to ensure that those who engaged in unlawful activities are held fully accountable under applicable laws."

Investigators are anticipated to make another attempt to execute the court warrant for the impeachment of the president as early as Sunday afternoon.

The CIO has a deadline until the end of Monday to carry out the warrant, after which it must decide whether to file for Yoon's formal arrest or to release him.

Yoon has not cooperated with the investigation, arguing that the CIO lacks the necessary legal authority to probe the matter.
