South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol Justifies Martial Law Declaration as Governance, Rejects Insurrection Allegations

Seoul, Dec 12 (NationPress) South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol on Thursday defended his unsuccessful martial law declaration as a necessary act of governance and refuted the insurrection allegations against him. He pledged to resist until the very end, whether it leads to impeachment or an inquiry into the martial law. Yoon dismissed calls for his resignation during a public address, as police and prosecutors expand their investigation into his brief martial law announcement made last Tuesday, according to Yonhap news agency.

Yoon asserted that he exercised his presidential authority to declare martial law "to safeguard the nation and restore normalcy in governance" amidst an Opposition that has paralyzed the administration, labeling it a "meticulously calculated political decision."

"Regardless of whether I face impeachment or investigation, I will confront it with fairness," he stated.
