South Korea: Main Opposition Party Calls for Yoon's Resignation Following Martial Law Revocation

Seoul, Dec 4 (NationPress) The leading opposition party, the Democratic Party (DP), has called for South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol to resign immediately after his unexpected announcement of martial law was revoked following a National Assembly vote against it.

In an urgent meeting of its members at the National Assembly, the DP stated that it would initiate impeachment proceedings against Yoon unless he voluntarily resigns, as reported by Yonhap news agency.

"Yoon's declaration of martial law is a blatant infringement of the Constitution," the DP asserted in its resolution, highlighting that Yoon did not meet any of the necessary conditions for declaring martial law.

"This constitutes a significant act of rebellion and serves as a valid justification for impeachment," it added.

Yoon announced the "emergency" martial law late Tuesday during an unexpected televised address, accusing the opposition of "crippling" the government with "anti-state" activities.
