New Delhi, Nov 7 (NationPress) The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued a strong advisory urging Indian citizens to steer clear of job scam centers in Myanmar. This announcement comes on the heels of the repatriation of 270 Indian nationals from the city of Mae Sot in Thailand via two special flights operated by the Indian Air Force (IAF).

During a weekly media briefing held in New Delhi, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that these individuals had entered Thailand unlawfully after a crackdown on scam centers in Myanmar took place. He elaborated that once the necessary protocols were followed in Thailand and their documentation was verified by Indian authorities, they were safely returned to India.

"Yesterday, 270 Indian nationals were successfully repatriated from Mae Sot in Thailand on two special flights. Following a crackdown on scam centers in Myanmar, these individuals crossed into Thailand illegally. The Thai authorities then conducted the necessary verification processes on their end. Once we confirmed that they were Indian citizens, we arranged for their return. Additionally, there are more Indian nationals still in Thailand, and we expect their return in the coming days. We will continue to provide updates on the situation," Jaiswal explained.

“For the past two years, various agencies within the Government of India have consistently issued travel advisories warning Indian citizens to avoid these scam centers, as the consequences can be devastating. Many who seek employment there face violence and exploitation. We reiterate our call for all Indian nationals to reject such job offers and thoroughly verify any agencies, whether domestic or international, that present these opportunities. It's a risky endeavor, and I urge everyone to heed our advisories,” he emphasized.

The Embassy of India in Bangkok along with the Consulate of India in Chiang Mai worked in close collaboration with various agencies of the Royal Thai Government to facilitate the safe repatriation of the 270 Indian nationals, including 26 women, on Thursday.
