Riyadh, Nov 8 (NationPress) Union Minister for Parliamentary and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, has landed in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to engage in the signing of the Bilateral Haj Agreement with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and to evaluate the preparations for Haj 2026.
He received a warm welcome from the Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Suhel Ajaz Khan, and the Indian Consul General in Jeddah, Fahad Suri.
On social media platform X, Rijiju shared, “I have arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to partake in the signing of the Bilateral Haj Agreement with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and to assess the preparations for Haj 2026. Gratefully received at the airport by Suhel Ajaz Khan, Ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia, and Shri Fahad Suri, Consul General of India, Jeddah.”
Earlier in July, the Ministry of Minority Affairs announced plans for Haj 2026, providing another opportunity for numerous Indian Muslims to pursue their spiritual goal of performing Haj, aided by the Indian Government.
The Ministry's announcement for Haj 2026 stated, “The Haj Committee of India invites applications for Haj 2026 from prospective pilgrims via the online Haj Application Form, accessible on the official website https://hajcommittee.gov.in and the mobile application 'Haj Suvidha' (available on both iPhone and Android devices).”
The application period was open from July 7, 2025, to July 31, 2025 (11:59 p.m.).
The notification also urged applicants to thoroughly review the Guidelines and Undertakings prior to submitting their applications.
“Having a machine-readable Indian International Passport issued before the application deadline and valid until at least December 31, 2026, is mandatory,” an official statement emphasized.
The Haj Committee advised prospective applicants to evaluate their readiness carefully before applying. “Cancellations, except in cases of death or severe medical emergencies, will incur penalties and may lead to financial loss,” it cautioned.
The Indian government has dedicated efforts over the past decade to ensure that the Haj pilgrimage is a transparent, consistent, cost-effective, safe, and spiritually rewarding experience for the pilgrims.
The Indian Haj Mission – the largest government-operated operation outside India's borders – has effectively coordinated logistics with the relevant Saudi authorities to ensure the success of this new initiative.
