The Queensland Police Service (QPS) announced on Tuesday that the 13-year-old boy allegedly approached a staff member at a supermarket located in the city of Ipswich, approximately 30 km southwest of Brisbane, at around 5:20 pm local time on Monday and attacked her with a knife.
The victim, a 63-year-old woman, received emergency medical assistance at the scene from police officers before being rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The QPS stated that the boy fled the scene but was apprehended by members of the public shortly thereafter.
