Detectives from a specialized strike force, focused on combating organized crime, were engaged in a standard surveillance initiative in southwest Sydney on Tuesday when they observed the three suspects preparing to commit a criminal act, as per the New South Wales (NSW) police.
To apprehend the suspects, tactical operations officers, along with the dog squad and aerial units, were deployed. Two vehicles were halted, leading to the arrest of the three men in Revesby, located 20 km southwest of central Sydney, at approximately 3:50 p.m. local time, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Scott Cook stated that it will be alleged in court that the suspects, aged 18, 19, and 26, were en route to execute a planned murder near a childcare facility.
During a search of the vehicles, officers discovered and confiscated two firearms, balaclavas, body-worn cameras, and canisters of fuel. A third firearm was seized during additional searches of related vehicles and properties.
The two younger suspects face charges of conspiracy to commit murder, possession of an unauthorized firearm, and participation in a criminal organization.
The 26-year-old has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and involvement in a criminal group.
NSW Police confirmed that the investigation remains active.
