Bangkok, Dec 30 (NationPress) A devastating fire at a hotel in the heart of Bangkok has resulted in the loss of three lives and injuries to seven other individuals, as reported by the local fire department on Monday.
The incident occurred around 9:21 p.m. local time (1421 GMT) on Sunday in a six-story hotel located near the renowned backpacker district of Khao San Road.
The blaze originated from a room on the fifth floor, leading to the immediate demise of a female tourist. Subsequently, two male tourists succumbed to their injuries at different hospitals.
Among the injured, there were two Thai men and five foreign nationals, as detailed by the local fire authorities.
The hotel has been instructed to cease operations for a security review, and an inquiry into the fire's origin is currently in progress.
At the time of the fire, approximately 75 guests were present in the hotel. The injured included two Thai citizens and five foreigners, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has underscored the necessity of safety measures following this incident, particularly with the New Year's Eve celebrations approaching, which include planned fireworks and festivities throughout the city.
Earlier, on December 14, three individuals lost their lives and 39 others were injured following a bomb explosion during an annual festival in Tak province, according to authorities.
In a post on social media, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra extended her heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the explosion.
She has directed police and security forces to investigate the incident promptly, apprehend those responsible, and ensure they are brought to justice. Additionally, she has mandated that security protocols be strengthened at all forthcoming festivals to safeguard public safety.
Prior to this, on January 17, at least 17 individuals perished in an explosion at a fireworks factory in central Thailand, as per reports from local media.
Rescue teams were alerted when the fireworks factory in Suphan Buri province caught fire, leading to its subsequent destruction in the explosion.
Photographs from the scene depicted debris scattered over a paddy field more than 100 meters from the site of the explosion.
Witnesses informed Thairath that over 20 employees were present at the factory during the explosion.
