Washington, May 10 (NationPress) US President Donald Trump has urged for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, emphasizing his dedication to achieving peace between the two nations. He cautioned that any breaches of the ceasefire would result in sanctions.
"Discussions with Russia and Ukraine are ongoing. The US advocates for, ideally, a 30-day unconditional ceasefire. We hope that a mutually acceptable ceasefire will be upheld, holding both countries accountable for the integrity of these direct negotiations. Should the ceasefire be violated, the US and its allies will impose additional sanctions," he expressed on Truth Social this Friday.
"Countless young soldiers are perishing weekly, and everyone should aspire for it to END. I do, and the United States does as well. As President, I will remain devoted to fostering Peace between Russia and Ukraine, alongside the Europeans, culminating in a Lasting Peace! This ceasefire must ultimately pave the way for a Peace Agreement. This can all be achieved swiftly, and I will be ready at a moment's notice if my assistance is required. Thank you for your attention to this significant matter!" he added.
In the meantime, while speaking to reporters at the Oval Office, Trump encouraged Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to conclude the conflict.
"I have a message for both parties: End this war. Wrap up this senseless war. That's my message to both of them," he stated.
During a Friday briefing, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt announced that the highly anticipated meeting between Trump and Putin next week in the Middle East will not take place.
The White House indicated that Trump had a "very good and productive" conversation with Zelenskyy, and he anticipates that both Ukraine and Russia will reach an agreement next week regarding the proposed 30-day ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov informed reporters that Russia appreciates the US leadership's efforts in resolving the situation in Ukraine and welcomes any country's involvement in the process, responding to inquiries about potential mediation by Turkey or China.
"We are prepared to welcome any country's initiatives. We are genuinely thankful to US President Trump for his endeavors to shift the settlement process towards a political and diplomatic focus. We will embrace the contributions of any other nations that can assist in the resolution," Peskov noted.
He further stated that a comprehensive discussion surrounding a 30-day ceasefire with Ukraine is not feasible without considering various nuances.
