UAE Denounces Israel's Takeover of the Syrian Buffer Zone

Abu Dhabi, Dec 11 (NationPress) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has issued a robust condemnation of Israel's takeover of the demilitarised buffer zone in the Golan Heights along with other critical positions in the vicinity. This action is seen as a breach of international law, specifically contravening the Agreement on Disengagement established in 1974 between Israel and Syria, as reported by the Xinhua news agency citing the Emirates' official news outlet, WAM.

The UAE firmly rejects these actions, which heighten regional tensions and obstruct the pursuit of peace and stability in the area, according to the report.

The UAE maintains its dedication to the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Syria, the report further stated.

On November 27, Syrian militant factions, spearheaded by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), launched a significant offensive from northern Syria, advancing southward into government-controlled territories and seizing the capital, Damascus, in just 12 days.

As a result of this offensive, the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad fell on Sunday, leading to his resignation and subsequent arrival in Russia seeking asylum.

On Sunday and Monday, Israeli air forces targeted military and security installations in and around Damascus, the southwestern province of Quneitra, Syrian naval vessels at Latakia Port, and military stores in coastal regions.

Moreover, the Israeli military has entered the demilitarised buffer zone created under the 1974 ceasefire agreement, asserting control over border territories as reported by both Syrian and Israeli sources.
