Seoul, April 2 (NationPress) The US Embassy in Seoul has issued a warning to American citizens residing in South Korea, urging them to stay away from large crowds or demonstrations in anticipation of the Constitutional Court's decision regarding President Yoon Suk Yeol's impeachment.
This advisory comes as the highest court prepares to announce its ruling on Yoon's impeachment linked to his brief declaration of martial law on December 3, as reported by Yonhap News Agency.
"In light of the Constitutional Court's upcoming verdict on President Yoon's impeachment, US citizens should expect significant protests and a heightened police presence," the embassy stated in a post on X.
It further advised, "Avoid any locations experiencing demonstrations, and exercise caution in areas with large crowds, gatherings, protests, or rallies."
This alert follows a similar message from the Chinese Embassy in Seoul, which urged its citizens to remain vigilant regarding safety and security.
The Chinese authorities warned of potential extreme incidents and recommended their citizens to keep their distance from and to refrain from participating in, lingering near, or observing political demonstrations close to the court and other locations in Seoul.
Previously, South Korean police announced plans to deploy approximately 14,000 personnel in Seoul, according to insiders, as the Constitutional Court is nearing its decision on President Yoon's impeachment case.
The court is set to reveal its ruling on whether to remove or reinstate Yoon following his unsuccessful attempt to impose martial law on Friday. For months, political divisions have been intensifying between supporters and detractors of Yoon's impeachment regarding his failed martial law initiative.
