Moscow, Nov 19 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar highlighted that the establishment of two new Indian Consulates General in Russia is poised to strengthen bilateral relations and signify a transformative phase in the ties between India and Russia.

While inaugurating the Consulates General in Yekaterinburg and Kazan, EAM stated, "This marks a significant milestone for us as we officially open two more consulates in this nation. As noted by the Ambassador, there has been persistent effort in recent months to set up these consulates as swiftly as possible."

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko, Indian Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar, officials from the governor's office in Kazan and Yekaterinburg, representatives of the Russian government, and numerous members of the Indian community.

Expressing gratitude for the backing provided by the Russian authorities, EAM Jaishankar acknowledged Deputy Foreign Minister Rudenko and the regional administrations of the Republic of Tatarstan and Sverdlovsk Oblast.

In emphasizing the importance of Yekaterinburg, EAM pointed out that the region is frequently referred to as the third capital of Russia, owing to its industrial prominence. He added that this area serves as a bridge to Siberia and is recognized for heavy engineering, gem cutting, defense manufacturing, metallurgy, nuclear fuel, chemicals, and medical devices.

"The region hosts one of the most significant international economic forums in Russia, INNOPROM. The consulate's opening will spur technological, scientific, economic, and trade collaboration between Indian and Russian industries," the EAM asserted.

Furthermore, EAM described Kazan as a highly frequented city in Russia. "After visiting Moscow and St. Petersburg, I found Kazan equally worthy of attention. It is a multicultural hub that connects Russia to the rest of Asia. The consulate will help fortify people-to-people connections by facilitating cross-cultural exchanges and participation in ITEC. Kazan is recognized for its oil production and refining, fertilizers, automotive, defense, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and electrical equipment," he remarked.

EAM Jaishankar expressed optimism that the Indian diaspora, business sector, and particularly young students would reap the benefits from the consular services and India's diplomatic presence in these regions.

He concluded, "I am confident that the establishment of these consulates will not only amplify our diplomatic footprint in Russia but also act as a catalyst to significantly enhance trade, boost tourism, and foster scientific, technological, academic, and cultural connections between our nations."
