Washington, March 19 (NationPress) The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has consented to a partial ceasefire in the ongoing conflict with Russia, a discussion facilitated by US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, as confirmed by the White House on Wednesday.

During a phone conversation on Tuesday, Trump updated Zelensky regarding his discussions with Putin.

The two leaders “reached an understanding on a partial ceasefire focused on energy,” stated Karoline Leavitt, the White House spokesperson, based on a readout of the call prepared by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz.

“Technical teams are scheduled to convene in Saudi Arabia shortly to explore the possibility of extending the ceasefire to the Black Sea as a pathway towards a complete cessation of hostilities,” Leavitt added, noting, “This could represent the initial step towards fully ending the war and ensuring security.”

While Trump had initially suggested a 30-day ceasefire, which Zelensky accepted, they ultimately agreed on a limited ceasefire that pertains solely to the energy and infrastructure sectors.

Leavitt characterized the Wednesday call between Trump and Zelensky as “fantastic.”

“President Trump provided a comprehensive briefing to President Zelensky regarding his dialogue with Putin and the critical issues at hand. They assessed the situation in Kursk and consented to closely share information between their defense teams as the battlefield dynamics progressed. President Zelensky requested additional air defense systems to safeguard civilians, notably Patriot missile systems. Trump committed to collaborating with him to identify available resources, particularly from Europe,” Leavitt mentioned.

Additionally, she noted, “President Zelensky expressed gratitude for the President's leadership in this initiative and reiterated his openness to a full ceasefire. President Trump also addressed Ukraine's electricity supply and nuclear power facilities, stating that the United States could offer significant assistance in managing those plants with its electricity and utility expertise. American ownership of those plants would provide optimal protection for that infrastructure and bolster Ukrainian energy systems.”
