Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested a cab driver in connection with the abduction, rape, and murder of an 11-year-old girl in the Mehrauli area of New Delhi. Authorities tracked down and apprehended the accused within six hours of the crime coming to light, police said.

How the Crime Unfolded

According to police, the suspect abducted the young girl at approximately 5:00 am on Monday while she was sleeping on a pavement alongside her family. The abduction triggered an immediate response from the Delhi Police, which deployed multiple specialised teams to locate the child.

Following his arrest, the accused reportedly confessed to the crime and disclosed that he had dumped the victim's body along the Faridabad-Gurugram road. Police subsequently recovered the body from the location he identified.

Charges and Legal Action

The cab driver has been booked on charges of kidnapping, rape, and murder. The swift arrest — within six hours of the incident — reflects coordinated deployment of investigative resources, though questions remain about safety conditions for pavement-dwelling families in the capital.

Separate Delhi Case: Influencer Alleges Rape Under Pretext of Video Shoot

In a separate incident in New Delhi, a 36-year-old social media influencer has alleged that a man raped her under the pretext of shooting videos. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Burari Police Station on 10 June, and an investigation is underway, a senior police officer confirmed.

According to the complaint, the victim — a resident of Burari — came into contact with the accused through a social media platform in 2022. She alleged that in September 2022, he invited her to a local hotel under the guise of filming social media reels, where he sexually assaulted her. The woman further alleged that the accused subsequently blackmailed and repeatedly assaulted her. She said she distanced herself after discovering he had concealed his real identity, and later received threats from his brother-in-law and another relative.

Bihar Gang-Rape Case: Extreme Brutality Reported in Begusarai

In Begusarai district of Bihar, a 28-year-old married woman was allegedly gang-raped by five men. According to her statement before the court, the accused held her captive when she stepped outside at night, dragged her to a secluded location, tied her with ropes, and subjected her to extreme brutality. The assault allegedly occurred on the night of 11 June and was medically confirmed during an examination on Thursday. The survivor is currently receiving treatment at Sadar Hospital.

A Disturbing Pattern

These three cases — spanning Delhi and Bihar — highlight a continuing pattern of sexual violence against women and children across India. Advocates and child rights organisations have repeatedly called for faster trials, stronger witness protection, and safer public spaces, particularly for homeless and economically vulnerable families.
